Nippon Kodo Celadon Shippo Small Arita Ware (79157)

A small incense burner with a Shippo pattern. Celadon is a type of porcelain with a bluish ash glaze.
Long ago, a Chinese emperor laboriously created it artificially in order to enjoy the taste of jade through porcelain.

In Japan, celadon ore was discovered in what is now Okawauchiyama, Imari City, during the Edo period, and it continues to be fired today as Nabeshima celadon. Celadon comes in a variety of colors, from white to greenish. The same celadon shows different looks depending on the angle at which it is viewed and how the light hits it.
