The ruins of the ancient Dazaifu government complex, located near Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine — deeply associated with Sugawara no Michizane — have long been known to local residents as "Tofuro Ruins." Once called "The Distant Court," this vast historic site served as the seat of power over Kyushu and the gateway to foreign diplomacy, leaving behind only its stone foundations.

Today, every spring, pale pink cherry blossoms bloom in abundance here, drawing crowds of flower-viewers.
