Kayou is built around the abundant, full-bodied fragrance of kyara grown in that complex and secretive natural setting, made from the finest raw materials by craftsmen at the top of their trade.

They are carefully crafted using traditional compounding techniques passed down through the centuries by Nippon Kodo, together with the latest manufacturing technology, and, after curing for a fixed period, are then finished by hand. Only limited numbers are produced every year, because they are manufactured exclusively in winter, said to be the best season, and are made from rare raw materials.

The fragrance of aloeswood derives from the resin the tree produces to protect itself from mold or stress. It is a fragrance whose character profoundly affects people’s mood, and it has been favored across epochs, regions and generations.
